Captain Marvel is a title that was passed down to Carol Danvers, who was previously operating under the name, "Ms. Marvel." Captain Marvel was then reintroduced into the Avengers in the the spin-off series Avengers Assemble, which was also written by DeConnick.  Though Carol Danvers has been in Marvel Comics since 1968, DeConnick's iteration of the character as Captain Marvel has spawned a group of fans called the "Carol Corps."

With the popularity of DeConnick's Captain Marvel series, it was only a matter of time until Carol got her own live-action movie from Marvel Studios. The announcement of a Captain Marvel movie featuring Carol Danvers as the main character comes off the heels of DeConnick's popular comic book run and marks Marvel Studios' first female-led film. Without a doubt, DeConnick helped reintroduce a strong female character to a new generation of comic book (and soon to be Marvel movie) fans.
