Semester Project Proposal:

            I intend on doing my semester project on the psychology of the Black race. I want to hone in on the roots of the mentality of the Black community in this country and how it gets played out in contemporary America. I want to include some of the behaviors of many of the slaves after they were free including but not limited to many people taking precious belongings that were owned by the slave masters. This point is extremely potent in my topic in that instead of slaves taking valuable things like mules or horses, they took ribbons and gorgeous gowns or dresses. If you correlate the behaviors of many free slaves then to now, you’ll find Blacks still have a fetish for ‘beautiful things’ like clothes, shoes, sneakers, jewelry and more. I intend to showcase my work in media form whereby I collect a series of images that relate to one another in one form or another for example, I would like to show an image or a two second video of blacks walking in chains, Chanel logos and rappers in videos, Blacks in the news media etc. (those are just a few images I’ll be gathering and publishing in a form of a montage). In general, I want my project to be a video that features many different images of blacks from 200 years ago to now and incorporate a bit of a testimonial feel that I will personally give in my work.
